At Falcon Support Services, we believe that creating a better future means caring for both people and the planet. As part of our commitment to social responsibility, we are actively working to reduce our environmental impact and promote sustainability across all areas of our organisation.
We understand that even small changes can make a big difference. That’s why we’ve taken practical, meaningful steps to embed environmentally responsible practices and green initiatives into our day-to-day operations:
- Powering Up Sustainably: All properties operated by Falcon Support Services now run on green energy, aligning their daily operations with low-carbon goals.
- Tree Planting for the Future:
In partnership with JUST ONE Tree, Falcon facilitated the planting of 194 trees. This initiative is expected to remove around 2.39 tonnes of CO2 annually—an estimated 59.75 tonnes over the next 25 years.
- Reducing Food Waste: By accepting surplus food from local shops and community members, Falcon not only reduces waste but ensures those in need have access to essential supplies.
- Reusing Resources: Programs are in place to redistribute second-hand clothes and computers, while a furniture reuse scheme helps to furnish properties for those in crisis—giving items a second life and reducing landfill use.
- Investing in Efficiency: Thanks to successful funding through the VCSE Energy Efficiency Scheme, the charity secured an Independent Energy Assessment to guide further carbon-reducing strategies.
- Greening the Community: Their award-winning Community Allotment, led by service users, was recognised by the Royal Horticultural Society. It grows fresh produce, promotes mental wellbeing, and brings people together for summer BBQs and socials.
- Cycling for Change: A newly installed bike rack encourages staff, volunteers, and service users to choose greener travel, reducing the organisation’s carbon footprint.
- Celebrating Young Champions:
Falcon supporters were honoured with the Leicestershire Community Champions Award 2023 for Young Fundraiser, recognising a litter-picking campaign that raised both funds and awareness.
