John's Story

John shows the power of resilience and what you can achieve when you believe and that people can always have a second chance in life. He came to us three and a half years ago. At the time he was sleeping in the woods and in active addiction but now he has moved into his first home showing the power of change and recovery.

The reasons for homelessness are complex, John explained: “I split up with my ex and found myself homeless. I then stayed at my brothers and became involved with drugs and alcohol. I started sleeping in the woods when I became homeless.”

He added, “Falcon Support Services helped me to get back on my feet and put a roof over my head. I was a resident there for four to five months and during that time, I worked with recovery to improve my mental health.

During my time with Falcon Support Services, I have taken every opportunity to improve.

Part of my recovery is being open to change. I learn fast and take every opportunity and I have completed over 40 courses.

Falcon Support Services are like family who made me and guided me, and I wouldn’t be here without the support of the staff who helped me to believe in myself and make those changes. But I had to be willing to change, so I came off the drugs and alcohol and embraced the opportunities.”

John gets involved in everything from the dog walks on a Friday to helping at the soup kitchen. He also plays sport and recently took the opportunity to train to be a referee. “I have also found joyful activities to be creative. I recently sold a painting I did for £100, all proceeds of which I donated to Falcon Support Services.”

He said: “I look forward to my future and it’s all thanks to Falcon Support Services. My kids are proud of me. I have changed my life and have lots to look forward to.”

John is proof that we can all have a second chance.
