Toby presented at our Loughborough day centre on 27th November 2025, visibly distressed following a relationship breakdown that resulted in homelessness. He had been sleeping rough in the Charnwood area, as he believed he had a local connection there due to a previous LE postcode.
It was quickly established that Toby did not have a local connection to Charnwood; however, in agreement with Charnwood Borough Council (CBC), he was placed in an emergency bed while further checks were completed. Referrals were made to other supported accommodation services, including those in his local authority area of Rushcliffe.
Toby was in full-time employment and had been cycling daily from Loughborough to East Leake for work. This became increasingly difficult due to ongoing back pain linked to a history of extensive spinal surgeries. Due to concerns about his health, an ambulance was called.
We worked closely with Rushcliffe Council to raise concerns regarding Toby’s health and the impact of him residing in Charnwood while commuting long distances by bike. Taking his medical condition into account, Rushcliffe Council agreed to place Toby in hotel accommodation in Nottingham and he was placed there on 17th December 2025.
