Rate of pay: £10.90 per hour / £9,068.80 per annum.

About us:

Falcon Support Services provides supported accommodation and community projects to those that are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or vulnerable in the community.

Our service helps vulnerable people by providing safe and secure accommodation with our staff working alongside clients to help them develop their skills, so they can move away from homelessness to living independently and positively contribute to their community.

Purpose of the job

To assist in the preparation of a daily evening meal for up to 30 residents

  • To help plan and organise the menu with other kitchen staff and within an agreed budget, taking into consideration any dietary requirements of residents.
  • To ensure the provision of a well-balanced, wholesome and nutritional diet.
  • Ensure that standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen area meet all the requirements of Environmental Health and report any health and safety concerns to the management team.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of food to standards that satisfy current food hygiene and safety legislation and regulations.
  • Help plan a varied menu that reflects residents’ preferences and choices, including any specific requirements related to cultural/religious beliefs, medical requirements, or other specific dietary requirements
  • Produce meals that are nutritious and well-balanced in order to ensure the good health of residents is maintained.
  • To ensure that you and any other kitchen/waiting staff are presented in a clean, laundered uniform
  • To maintain sympathetic contact with residents and notify any sign of need or potential problem to support staff and/or management
  • Be prepared to order food supplies, taking care to ensure that the best value for money is achieved.
  • Carry out stock rotation and regular audits of stock to ensure stock is either used prior to the recommended consumption date or disposed of appropriately.
  • Ensure that all food stock is stored according to recommended guidelines
  • Ensure that food temperature records are produced and recorded on a daily basis in line with current requirements
  • Ensure that the fridges and freezers are defrosted, and well maintained and all items stored in them are labelled and kept on appropriate shelves
  • Ensure all catering equipment and cooking utensils and cleaned appropriately and stored away safely.
  • Ensure that the kitchen area, including the hob, oven, microwave, sinks, bowls and all work surfaces are cleaned to a high standard and EHD specifications on a daily basis and are fit for purpose.
  • Ensure that storage cupboards are sorted and cleaned on a regular basis.
  • At all times wear appropriate, clean clothing including a tabard or apron at all times when working in the kitchen and

  • To undertake/attend any training and/or meetings as required by the job role.
  • To promote a positive image of Falcon Support Services, working as part of an integrated team.

Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

  • Experience working on your own initiative to deliver a high-quality service
  • The ability to work proactively and with limited direct supervision
  • Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Must be over the age of 18
  • Willingness to undergo a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate or higher
