Substance Misuse Research Project

Substance Misuse Research Project

19 Mar 2024

In a concerted effort to understand one of society's challenges, a research project titled "Understanding Barriers to Seeking Treatment for Addiction" has been officially released. Commissioned by Leicestershire County Council and led by Falcon Support Services and Lotus Social Research, this initiative aims to shed light on the complex barriers that hinder effective treatment for individuals struggling with substance misuse.

The overarching goal of the research is to identify and understand these barriers comprehensively, with the ultimate aim of informing local commissioning, policy and practice to enhance treatment accessibility and efficacy. Through a combination of qualitative and quantitative methodologies, and by centring the voices of those directly impacted, the research aims to generate insights that are truly reflective of the realities faced by this group, delving into various dimensions of the issue, including societal stigma, structural barriers, cultural factors, and individual experiences.

In addition to shedding light on existing barriers, the research develops recommendations that are contextually relevant and actionable with a vision of a future where everyone affected by substance misuse can access the care and support they need to thrive.
