I am sure I say this alongside many other homeless charities and key workers when I say we have faced challenging times. As I reflect on the last month, I am amazed at how the organisation, operational processes and services have changed and adapted.

  • All our Supported Accommodation Projects are open and remain fully operational,
  • The Annex, our specialist sex workers service is open with new safer practices in place,
  • Our Drop In service is currently closed including our main hub at the Falcon Centre and all satellite services at Coalville, Syston and Hinckley. Phone support is available for those in need,
  • The Shed, our Youth Club is currently closed and will reopen in line with schools. Activity Packs have been issued and support available through social media or phone,

The increased anti-bacterial spray, hand sanitiser and cleaning are all part of daily operations as we continue to work in close partnership to provide supported accommodation to the homeless. Assisting them to access and maintain accommodation, preventing homelessness.

People rely on us. But it is not the charities ability to adapt that amazes me, it is the individuals. Staff come to work because they care. Because they are dedicated to helping the homeless during these times and we want to play our part in helping the nation. I am inspired by our staff team, our service users, and our supporters.

The resilience, dedication and commitment of our workers makes me proud. Proud of them, proud of the service they offer and proud to work for a charity with such an ethos. They are turning up every day, doing their best under tremendous stress trying to keep everyone safe. It is the staff and service users that keep me going.

No one knows the implications Covid-19 will have on the homeless sector long term. Changes will be certainly be required to reduce future outbreaks and minimise risk. Although the future is uncertain and the financial strain on our organisation not quite known yet, I am confident with a great front-line team, strong Board of Trustees and the charities proven ability to change and adapt we will continue to provide vital services to the homeless community across Leicestershire.

All help very much appreciated.
