Homelessness can happen to anyone. It could happen to you, your family or your friends. With years of austerity many people are only one pay check away from being unable to manage their financial commitments, risking losing their homes and the latest national statistics released by Shelter reveal that 1 in 25 people are homeless in worst affected areas.

Nationally rough sleeping is on the increase and since 2010 estimates show an increase of 169%. Homelessness is a matter of concern always but is particularly harsh in the winter, when the temperature drops. At least 449 people that were homeless have died in the UK in the last 12 months.

Falcon Support Services want to prevent deaths by providing an additional three beds to those that are homeless over the festive period from 3rd December – 3rd January. We can provide a warm bed, breakfast, lunch, hot dinner, use of shower facilities and the use of a washing machine plus, hopefully, a Christmas that restores their faith in the community.

The three emergency beds will be based at the Falcon Centre, part of the Housing Matters consortium in partnership with Nottingham Community Housing Association and The Bridge. The cost of these extra bed spaces is funded through the generous donations made by local people and businesses.  A thorough assessment of need will take place and all appropriate advice and housing options explored. Our trained support workers will also work towards sourcing alternative, longer term accommodation.

We also want to open our doors to the most vulnerable and isolated to provide a community Christmas Lunch. The Falcon Centre are also appealing for any donations of Christmas gifts, clothes, and food to help make this a memorable time for those most in need.

This is the fourth year running #festiveshelter and the last three years have been a resounding success with an amazing response from the local community, businesses and people holding fundraising events. We are hopeful this year will be just as much of a success.
